London: Central European Observer, 1940-69. 3 bound collections, 8.75" x 12.5" (each). Brown paper boards, quarter-bound in tan cloth. Seattle Public Library stamps/markings throughout. A few faint smudges to boards and text. Overall condition is good. Several library markings, as noted, but overall very good condition.
Each issue is approx. 16 pages in length and includes articles pertaining to political affairs, with heavy influence on the arts (poetry, literature, theater). Reoccurring headlines include "Economic Events," "Talking about Books," and letters to the editor/comments from the public "Observer's Diary" with various advertisements. Multiple anti-war, anti-Nazi (and Hitler Youth) articles describing Europe's reaction and starting points of rehabilitation due to WWII. Interlaced with commentary about literature (Shakespeare) and poetry of the time. Includes multiple political cartoons. Mostly European contributors - dignitaries, representatives, with some Americans as featured contributors. Later issues begin to focus on Palestine with articles, "Terror in Palestine," "New Deal for Palestine," "Is there a Solution for Palestine?," "The Palestine Conference," and "Palestine at UNO."
