Marbled boards 3/4 bound in red morocco with gold stamping. Raised spine bands; marbled end papers. Light foxing throughout. Leather is worn along the edges. Break in leather on the front of the spine (volumes 1 and 2). Half-inch chip with loss to top of spine (volume 1). Light smudging along spines. Scuffing to edges throughout. Good.

Alphonse de Lamartine's romanticized account of the rise and fall of the moderate Girondists party in Revolutionary France. Originally published in contrast to the radical Jacobin party at the time of the revolution. Item #580
