Taipei, Taiwan: Xiaoxuesheng Huakan Press, [1958-1959]. 19 volumes, 8" x 5 3/4" (each), approximately 30 pages per issue. Original paper wrappers, full color. Saddle bound with one to two staples. Light chipping with loss; some corner folds, slight toning, and occasional tidemarks. Four issues are more distressed than the others with covers detached or potentially lacking pages; the other 15 issues generally good to very good. Item #2800

Primary School Student Pictorial was a semimonthly reading periodical for younger elementary pupils that ran more than 300 issues between 1953 and 1966; here is a lively sample from the series. These issues include carefully designed color covers, as well as comics, science features, stories, games, and even a hygiene song. Overall, the issues illustrate late-1950s Taiwanese children's reading and visual culture.
