"We knew Ishi"
Red Bluff, California: Walker Lithograph, 1971. 5.5" x 8.5" pp. [2], 101, [1], includes several black and white photographs. First edition. Signed by the author on front end paper. Saddle bound with three staples; tan wraps had a faux-leather texture, slightly scuffed along the spine, otherwise clean. Text edge has a few spots; inside pages are largely clean. Very good.
Ishi (1861-1916) was the last known member of the Native American Yahi people from the present day state of California. He was widely (and likely inaccurately) touted as the "last wild Indian" and lived most of his life in isolation before "emerging" in downtown Oroville, California. (adapted from Wikipedia)
