Spiral bound sketch notebook. 10”x5.75” pp. [52] [21 full color sketches, watercolor; 15 sketches (uncolored)], “Series B75 Spirax Sketch Book” covers show wear, stamps/labels, and a tidemark; one illustrated leaf is detached, otherwise sound. “Watercolor Theatrical Costume Album / 1933 - Sheffield City Hall” inscribed on the inside cover; Sheffield City Hall has existed as a venue for the arts since opening in 1932. Costume sketches depict characters from productions such as “Hiawatha” (Hiawatha, Nokomis), Gilbert and Sullivan’s “The Gondoliers” (Don Alhambra del Bolero), Shakespeare’s “Twelfth Night” (A Servant, Feste, Olivia, Maria, Sir Andrew, Sir Toby Belch, Sebastien, Malvolio, A Sea Captain), and James Birdie’s “Tobias and the Angel.” Some sketches identified “Berwick High School,” several dated 1933-1935; most likely student sketches.
