Original blue cloth boards with gilt lettering on the front cover; light wear, "January 1956" written in pen on front free end paper. Very clean text; very good overall. Sarah Thompson was the Countess of Rumford (1774-1852) who inherited her father's title and never married; she died in Concord, NH, leaving $15,000 for an asylum for widows and female orphans. This book describes the history and mission of the asylum, along with lists of officers, board members, and beneficiaries.
