Dudley" stamped on inside back cover); likely bound as a gift for one "EZ" in 1915, as stamped in inside front cover ("19*E*Z*15"). Bound in full crushed morocco with a double gilt-ruled border; flower ornament band along the top of both the front and back covers. Five raised bands with the title, author, and illustrator to the second and fourth compartments, date 1910 at the bottom. Mauve, silk floral endpapers. A.e.g. with slight wear. 7"x10.5" pp. xii, 270. Fine full leather binding by Fanny Dudley with attractive silk floral endpapers. A prominent bookbinder, Dudley was a pupil of Florence Foote (who apprenticed from Evelyn Nordhoff and T.J. Cobden-Sanderson), as well as a member of the National Society of Craftsmen and Guild of Bookworkers. This copy with some rubbing to edges, corners, and spine bands, with small spots of scuffing on the cover board. Includes a tissue-guarded color frontispiece and color and black-and-white plates by a number of artists, including Maxfield Parrish. . Item #2030
