This is the first American edition, first state, inscribed by the author on the front free end paper: "Inscribed for Alfred F. Goldsmith by James Branch Cabell / 9 March 1920." Includes book plate on the front free paste down, plate is from the library of Alfred Francis Goldsmith. Cover boards exhibit very light wear though overall present very well; inside pages are largely clean without visible markings. Item #197

James Branch Cabell (1879-1958) was an American fantasy fiction author from Virginia whose novels peaked in popularity in the 1920s. Known for his escapist, ironic, and satirical stories, Cabell published 52 books in his lifetime.
